dad puts debt into sons name

my son got into an accident at age 17. the car is in his dads name but the car was given to my son by my dad. my son has been giving his dad money every month for insurance so he assumed, but the accident revealed there was no insurance. the debt for the accident went to the dads credit, because it never got paid. my son also has been giving his dad money for the accident, $1,000.00, which my son claims he has paid his dad. his dad claims he hasnt given him anything, which is i feel a lie. anyways my son just turned 18 a couple of weeks ago and my sons dad locked him out of the house, wont give him any of his belongings, demands more money, and told him he contacted the credit bureau and has transferred the debt into my sons name, called the state and has now gotten my sons driver license suspended, i called the credit bureau and the state and both of what my son told that his father did has actually happened. no license and bad credit to begin his adult life with. i feel so bad and dont know what to do, can someone really transfer debt into another persos name after they turn 18 and get a license suspended? my son is a good kid and unfortunately receiving the wrath of his father.
