Crazy situation here...my daughter is 13 and due to give birth in a month. The boy just turned 16 and claims to want to be in their lives. It will be myself, my husband, and ex-husband (her dad) who will be caring for, housing, and financially supporting this baby while continuing to raise my young daughter. None of us care to see a relationship between the two teens because of my daughter's young age. Due to the boy's home life and behavior patterns, we do not want the baby with him or his family except possibly under a supervised setting.
So in the hospital once the baby arrives, how is it that the birth certificate is handled and can we (or should we) step in? My daughter wants the boy's last name on the certificate. Does paternity have to be established first? Where is the line between our rights as her parents and her rights as the mother of the baby?
Thanks in advance.
