    Default Parental Kidnapping

My wife is threatening to take our children and move them to Massachusetts. We are not separated, and have not filed for divorce. Can she legally do that or is that considered parental kidnapping?

    Default Parental Kidnapping

    Natarch519,

It could be considered parental kidnapping. You should consult a lawyer regarding your rights and suggest your wife do the same. I am not a lawyer, I am a Life Coach who specializes in parental kidnapping.

I hope this has already been resolved. For support please feel free to email me at www.wendy@neogensiis.com and enter "parental kidnapping" in the subject line.

Parental Kidnapping Law & Legal Definition

How about explaining to the wife that if she tries to go through with her threats, she'll be spending the better part of her remaining years in federal prison. Then promptly divorce her......

Preferably the trauma to the child/children would be uppermost in both parents' thoughts. Working out a potential kidnapping situation before it turns into one is in everyone's best interest.

In a perfect world I would agree. However, when the wife is thinking (much less threatening) to take the children away from her husband and across state lines, preventing trauma to the children doesn't seem like it's forefront on her part.

Default Parental Kidna;;ing: Insiting emotional drama isn't generally helpful...

Exactly. It is always at least one of the parents going overboard, which is why intervention of some sort before illegal, traumatic and dangerous acts are committed is so important.

A mediator, therapist, life coach, family intervention, whatever is possible and most likely to get some time and attention focused on working with the issues one step at a time instead of doing something rash thinking it will somehow solve all their problems.

Threats of prison only ignites the emotional instability of each person involved.

That's certainly possible, and I'm not disagreeing with your other points. Looking at this from the LE point of view, and it's something I've unfortunately had to do too many times. Sometimes sitting both parties down and explaining in cold, hard facts of their actions is sometimes all it takes. I do think you are doing a tremendous service and wish there were more like you out there.
