Hi,
I have a question for both civil and legal gurus. I am more thinking along the lines of civil law suit at this point.
The situation: I am now 40 years old. It came to my attention some years ago that when I was 15 one of my buddies, and he was 15 as well, molested my 5 year old niece. My understanding is that this is well outside of the parameters for any legal action from a criminal stand point, I understand that to be a 6 year statue of limitations for this, but is there a way to sue my former buddy for emotional damages that he caused to my niece if I can get him to openly admit to doing so.
My niece has had a seriously rough time in life and me and my family believe it is due to this action by my "buddy" earlier in life. I understand he has assets and something to lose now and if possible I would like to go after him for his crimes earlier in life.
Thank you for your input on this matter.
Craig
I'm sorry for what your niece is going through but you do not have a civil case. There is no way to definitely link what happened that long ago to what she's gone through even though common sense says it has a lot to do with it. Please urge her to get therapy.
