Age Discrimination

Is it legal to not hire someone because they are under 18? I went to apply for a job teaching private guitar lessons and they asked me my age. I told them I am 16, the legal working age in Pennsylvania, to which they replied you have to be 18. They wouldn't give me an answer when I asked why I need to be 18 to teach guitar lessons. Is this legal? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The legal working age is 15 years old in most jobs in the United States with the excecptions of jobs that are required by law for you to be 18 years old or older. You can work for your parents and get paid at any age. These are Federal Law. A Company itself has a right to make its own age requirement for hiring and you can not do any thing about that.
