She can force boyfriend to either put it up for sale and split money with her or buy her half of the house from her. I'd stay out of it if I were you. Let the two of them worry about it.

My boyfriend owns a house with his ex girl friend, the house in in both of their names. The house is for sale. She moved out willingly about 4 months ago and when she moved out she agreed to continue to pay half the mortgage. She has been doing this but now she is stating that she is going to get a lawyer and see what her options are. Does she have any legal ability to stop paying half the mortage and/or sue my boyfriend?

The house has been for sale for about 9 months now and hasn't sold. That's why she's threatening to sue. Since she's not living there she thinks it's his fault it hasn't sold, but it's really this terrible market. She left the house willinging. Are you saying that she could force him to buy her half from her? That's what I'm worried about. He has no money to buy from her, if he did he would have done so already. If he gets in a bad financial situation that effects our future together...that's why I'm worried about it. I dont' want this situation to make him bankrupt.
