can they make me talk? Will the charge stick?

Ok my boyfriend and i got into an argument that turned a bit physical. He was a arrested for simple assault and herassment. They did not take pictures, but i did give a statement do you think the assault charge will stick? He is on probation so he is still sitting in jail on a probation violation. Also if it actually goes to trial, can they make me talk on the stand? Can they make me answer questions? Im not saying my written statement isnt true but i would love for him to come home me and my kids miss him very much and I want it all to go away!! PLEASE HELP

They do not need your permission to go forward with the case. His being on probation is going to make it more likely they will pursue it. Did the officers witness anything he did to you? I think they can subpeona you and then you will need to talk. Since there are kids involved maybe some time apart will be good for you.
