I was charged with a crime and went through the motions for one year. On the day my actual trial was to begin my Lawyer came over and told me that the DA dropped the charges (Nolle Prosequi). There was not any deal authorized by me or mentioned by my lawyer. They dropped this because they didn't want to look like fools (can explain the details some other time).
Shortly after that day I recieved a notice that I was being charged court fees. I called to argue, but they will only let you speak to people that can not answer. So I did not pay the court fees.
I have now received notice that if I do not pay the court fees by Saturday I will be charged with contempt of court.
Do I have to pay court fees even though I was not found Guilty? Should I show up to court? Do I need to have an attorney?
I do not want to pay them this money. It is only $615 but the money is not the issue. This whole thing is BS right from the beginning, and it has already cost me $5000 in lawyer fees.
Thanks for any information you can provide me.
