Hey guys,
I just received a ticket earlier today for parking in a handicapped zone on the street. Thing is, I do not believe where I was parked was actually a handicapped zone, and I cannot find any online resources related to street parking handicapped zone law.
There are 2 handicapped parking signs on the street, with enough room in between for a car to be parked. That is not where I was parked. I was parked several yards ahead of the second sign, with still enough room after the second sign for an additional car to be parked. Apparently, I was still in violation of the law according to the ticket on the windshield. I will pay the $10 fine, if only for the reason that after 48 hours it jumps up to $15, and then further upward from there, but I do not feel this is a fair charge, and I would like to know what the law actually has to say about it so if this ever happens again I will have the ability to say "I disagree with this, and here's why", instead of just the first portion.

How about not being a douche? I ran several searches and did not find anything useful, hence resorting to a legal forum. If you really want to be helpful and not so condescending, how about posting a link?
Thanks for nothing pal.
Sorry to hear about the fine. If nothing else, the hassle of it costs more than the actual fine. Have you tried The Pennsylvania Code Online
Yeah that was one of the sites I initially came across, but I couldn't find anything on there related specifically to handicapped zones as they apply to street parking. Maybe I overlooked something.
I paid the fine with no problem, but I would like to actually know what the law says there, instead of having to guess and risk having to pay another 10 bucks down the road.
Tell ya what stud, next time you're at the store pick up a sense of humor. All of the following (and much more) is readily accessible to someone who uses a simple google search. I'm sure if you try real hard, you'll be able to find all the information specific to your individual circumstance. Or not......
From Title III(which applies to businesses who receive federal funding) of the American Disailities Act(ADAAG) Acessibility Guidelines:
III- 7.4400 Signage (ADAAG §4.1.2(7)). Requirements for exterior signs are essentially the same as those for interior signs (see §4.1.3(b) below). The international symbol of accessibility must be used to indicate accessible parking spaces; accessible passenger loading zones; and accessible entrances and toilet facilities, if all are not accessible.
And from the UFAS( which states it's purpose as:The document embodies an agreement to minimize the differences between the standards previously used by four agencies (the General Services Administration, the departments of Housing and Urban Development and Defense, and the United States Postal Service) that are authorized to issue standards under the Architectural Barriers Act, and between those standards and the access standards recommended for facilities that are not federally funded or constructed.):
4.6.3* PARKING SPACES. Parking spaces for disabled people shall be at least 96 in (2440 mm) wide and shall have an adjacent access aisle 60 in (1525 mm) wide minimum (see Fig. 9). Parking access aisles shall be part of an accessible route to the building or facility entrance and shall comply with 4.3. Two accessible parking spaces may share a common access aisle. Parked vehicle overhangs shall not reduce the clear width of an accessible circulation route. Parking spaces and access aisles shall be level with surface slopes not exceeding 1:50 in all directions.
EXCEPTION: If accessible parking spaces for vans designed for handicapped persons are provided, each should have an adjacent access aisle at least 96 in (2440 mm) wide complying with 4.5, Ground and Floor Surfaces.
4.6.4* SIGNAGE. Accessible parking spaces shall be designated as reserved for the disabled by a sign showing the symbol of accessibility (see 4.30.5). Such signs shall not be obscured by a vehicle parked in the space.
