Children of Native American Fathers Who Aren't Required To Pay Child Support.

I have a friend who has never received child support for her child who's father is Native American (WA State). while employed (not in jail) the father always worked for the Tribe he did however reside off The Rez most of his life. the paternity has been proven and the child is now an adult. Native American fathers are shielded from paying child support. what about the rights of these children to receive support who are also Native American? these laws need to be changed!

Actually, she is a step ahead by just having the child. Legally, the tribe decides custody and can take the child away from her at any time to be turned over to the father.

since I posted this I found out he's in jail for statutory rape of his last wife's 14 year old daughter. btw-my friend was 15 or 16 when she met him.

my friend is white & her only connection to the tribe are friends & the boy's (he's now an adult with a 2 year old) father. her son went to live with his father when he was 16 & was put in child protection services when his father was arrested (a different offence)

I don't think she's ever applied for government/tribal assistance for the boy (which I'm sure she knows about).
