Video recording strangers in public.

Is it legal to video record strangers on the street IN NY WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT from sitting inside a restaurant or from my car that are breaking the law and turning it in to the police? Some states I read you must have consent to video record a stranger.

There is no expectation of privacy in a public place. As long as you don't use your images commercially (and they're not otherwise illgal -- e.g., upskirt), you can videotape in a public place; and if your taping captures criminal activity, feel free to share it with the police.
