I seem to remember reading that you can have only 3 animals in a home....any combo of cats & dogs......like 3 cats 0 dogs; 1 cat 2 dogs, but I can not find this info anywhere. Retza

That depends from state to state. In which state do you live?

It also depends on county. In some counties you can have four dogs. If you want more than four pets, you must apply for a permit and be properly setup as a kennel.

From what I understand, the County has made the requirements to obtain the permit more difficult to obtain.

I'm in Mille Lacs county in the state of Minnesota. I ask because I work with a woman who has 2 dogs and over 20 cats in her home. It can't be healthy for her or the animals, besides her clothes are starting to have that wonderful smell of urine and poo.....
But, on the other hand, if I turn her in those cats will more likely be put down. From what I know of her, she is taking care of them, feeding and changing cat boxes, and she does take them to a vet when sick. So I probably will let well enough alone. And yes, I think I'll just make a quick comment to her like-please don't stand so close you know your clothes smell.

I think it also depends on the conditions that the animals are living in. If they are all being taken care of and fed, or if they are being ignored.
I believe that it does vary from state to state.

It depends to what place you belong. Other countries can own a pet as much as they want.

I would think that having three pets is legal. Many people have a little more than three and as long as the pets are taken care of then there shouldn't be a problem.

But if you have a whole house full of pets then you might have a problem. It isn't safe for a lot of animals to live together unless there is a lot of land for them to wander on. It's pretty cruel to have too many animals living in a small house or an apartment.
