A couple of weeks ago, we were at the KwikTrip just north of Stewartville. When my boyfriend went to go pull out of the parking lot, his tires spun, the pavement was wet and that is what caused this. While we were in a parking lot, there wasn't any way that a person or any property was in threat of being damaged. The cop pulled us over and gave him a ticket for reckless driving (and a seatbelt ticket, but that's not the issue). I was looking over the ticket before we pulled away and there was no fine on there. The deputy had already told us how to pay the fine. So, my boyfriend ran back to his car and asked him how to find out the fine and the cop told him that we can go on the mncourts.gov website to find the fine and again stated that we could either pay the fine online, by phone or by mail.

We got home and while trying to find out how much his specific fine would be I ended up calling the number on the ticket. The lady I spoke to said that since reckless driving is a criminal offence that this was a mandatory court appearance and that no fine had been issued as of yet.

What I'm wondering is whether or not the deputy telling us how to find and pay the fine even though it's a mandatory court appearance and he gave a summons, not a citation, can help us in anyway. It seems that it was negligent on his part that he told us incorrect information.

Any advice for when he goes to court on Thursday??

TIA!!
