I currently live in Missouri. Here, at the age of 17 you can legally move out of your parents house without them having the power to stop you. At what age are you able to do this in Kansas? Would I have to go through the whole court process of becoming emancipated?
I don't know what the law states for your exit from home, BUT unless you are being abused, you may want to reconsider that move, my Grandson was told to leave his home (17 almost 18)
He stated last year that if he gets thrown out he had a friends place to go, well that was not the case, I took him in and told him that I could provide food and a place to sleep, if he needed anything he needed a job because I am on a limited income and cannot provide financial support, in short he is now finding out that if just kept his mouth shut and did what they asked of him he would still be living there and they have the means to support him in many ways, life is not easy on your own, if you do not have a good job, which at 17 I am sure you do not, there is no way you can support yourself and get your education finished.
A $8-$10.00 per hour part time job is no income to support yourself, even full time it's not really that much money, you have to pay for, 1. a car to get to work, 2. insurance for the car, which at your age is astronomical, 3. rent, 4.food and a whole bunch of gee whizzes that pop up, like new tires and general auto upkeep, gas, medical bills and the list can go on and on.
So if you are not in that bad of a situation I would tough it out to you at least finish H.S. Then you can go look for a good full time job and maybe you will survive, then there's always the Military to look into, not a bad deal really, you can get training in a field that you like, a place to sleep, food, medical and transportation to your job, all provided for you by the courtesy of Uncle Sam, the pay is not bad, the experience unmatchable, GOOD LUCK TO YOU.
