I inherited land that once held a doublewide home. I had the home removed but a garage still exists on the property. I have the electricity turned on to the garage. City ordinance is making me pay for trash service when nobody lives on the premises. There is not a residential house on the premises. There is no trash to pick up. Their ordinance states if you have utility turned on a property, the resident must pay for trash service. Even under a city ordinance, how can they force me to pay for this service I don't need or want? I attended a city council meeting and they said it is forced on me because it is a city ordinance. If I did live on the premises, how could they force me to use that specific trash co. and what if I wanted to burn my own trash and recycle?
