payment for testimony
I need to know if it is legal for a company that needs a witnesses testimony in order to win a large settlement from a law suit, to pay that witness for the info.
It depends on how you define "pay the witness". Expert witnesses are paid and that is legal. Other non-eperts are paid to travel to court to testify. That is not illegal. But to ask a witness to lie in return for payment is illegal.
If I had information that this company needed to prove a person they sued and won an 8 million dollar settlement from had the assets to pay them and was hiding them, can I ask for a type of finders fee or a percentage of what they collect for my help?
