1. doesn't Virginia state law mandate 180 day school year?

also,
i received a flier from our sons science teacher. it said that she will be holding "study trips" on the days that have been cut and we are required to shuffle the kids back and forth since there will be no bus transportation.

is that legal? and can i say no? i really cant take the time off of work to keep shuffling the kids back and forth. neither can my husband, if we do we'll have to find new jobs as we'll certainly be fired for asking for all that time off, and in this economy who can afford that?

this isnt related but i have another question about all the fees the "public" school charges. besides all the supplies (about $75-100 per child) they want about $40-60 in FEES (regular locker, gym locker, agenda, special gym clothes, thumb drives, printer ink...etc etc)
