Garnishments
Can I do anything about a wage garnishment? I am so far behind in bills and medical bills and prescriptions from a drunk driver hitting me and a teenager hitting me. I have my daughter and grandson living with me too now and no way to afford anything with a 25% of my wages being garnished. Is there anyway to get the percentage dropped to make it easier on me? It is Capital One Visa credit card - I had a $300 dollar balance and now they are garnishing for $2000. Thought it was and old enough debt that they couldn't collect now but they got the judgement in April 2008 and the debt was from 2006. Never heard anything til now and now my check this Friday is being garnished.
You can file a Motion with the Court (District Court where the Garnishment is filed - City and County of Denver?) and ask for reconsideration. It is very difficult to get the Federal percentages lowered.
