"(Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)" I would like to know the legalities of a very instrusive form of drug sweeping in my school. This is how it happens: When a drug search happens in my school it begins with a random lockdown. Before this the police canine squad quietly enters the building shortly before the lock-down not to warn students of the impending event. After the lockdown begins, the vice-principle will travel with the canine squad from class to class. The VP will then unlock the classroom door, swing it open, and yell (NOT exaggerating here...) to everyone to put their hands up, not move them, and while to doing that to exit the room orderly and silently. We are then told to line up against a wall while the drug dog pass by everyone to sniff for controlled substances. There is no choice in this manner, we are ordered to be silent and obey the word of the VP and police. They also have the dog sniff the lockers. I feel like I am in prison and someone has been caught smuggling cocain or something. What's next? A full strip and cavity search? I do not believe this search is either reasonable nor justified under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. All the school and police are doing is assuming everyone or a group in the school is possessing drugs. Is this reasonable enough? We could just assume the whole country uses drugs and search the whole coutry too while they're at it... So, is this constitutional? Do I have the right to know what neutral party authorized this search? Is there anyway I can inquire about this without being turned away or ignored? I see this as a very big issue as I feel my rights are largely being infringed. Please help!
