18 year old and a 40 year old

i am currently 19 now and ive known a woman for almost 3 years we met on an online game and where simply friends i was 17 at the time we didnt know anything about each other soon i was 18 and i felt strongly for her so i told her i loved her and at the time she simply told me hun im 40 years old and i thought about it and i decided it didn't matter to me about 2 months after that she started to return my "i love you" 's it has been nearly a year since that it will be at the end of march i want to know is it legal for me to go and see her and possibly have a relationship.this is in canada
i had told my parents about this and they threatened to post in her local newspaper that she is a pedophile but we were simply friends for a whole year and then when i was 18 i told her. she didnt ask for this is she safe from this or is it something to worry about?
