Cool Can ROGERS COMMUNICATIONS be sued?

Rogers charges their Pay-As-You-Go clients $2 for using certain 1-800 toll free numbers. But they don't charge their monthly payment clients.

Specifically 1-800-555-1111 (Bell Canada Long Distance Client Card)

Their policies indicate that the 1-800 numbers might include airtime charges (understandable) ... and that 411 contacts will be charged the $2 surcharge.

No other carrier anywhere charges for that number. The "Office of the President" (Rogers) state that they know about the issue but are not technically able to offer a solution ???

Nowhere is the charge mentioned ... in any literature... by any representative... nowhere... it just shows up on your bill. One rep told me... (quote) "The 1-800-555-1111 number is so close to 1-800-555-1212 that the computer thinks it is calling it so you get charged??????

Is it legal to charge someone for a service without telling them about it first?

I think it may not be legal, but it may be very tough to fight.

Have you considered taking the case up with a consumer watchdog type of person, like Sean Mallen on Global TV?

The problem there may be... Does Rogers own an interest in Global? Rogers is a very big opponent to go up against, unfortunately.

Default An Answer from the Office of the President

    I finally got results.

They actually changed their technology (accounting software) to NOT charge ANYONE for ANY 1-800 number... Regular client OR Pay As You Go.

They thanked me for my insight . No other offerings were made.
