    Default termination of employment

Is it legal to terminate a probationary employee telling him/her we are doing this due to lack of work.we have however hired another person who is doing same kind of work,at a lower hourly rate of pay! Any suggestions? Or answers. Thank you.

In Canada, if they lay off a person who is a permanent worker (worked at the company for 6 + months) and say it is because there is a "lack of work" then that is illegal, or at least you can go to the labour board and dispute it.

I'm pretty sure you can go to the labour board for that, though; you may not be able to dispute your case, however, if you are not a permanent employee. You can certainly try though ... the labour board will know if you can do anything about that or not.

They are national and federal laws that deal with this. However, the criteria will vary depending upon the country you are in
