I think that many of these countries face a problem which is that they have two sets of laws, the official laws of the country and religious laws. The problem is that these two sets of laws are sometimes very different from each other.

I heard that in some Arab nations around Saudi Arabia especially in Yemem and Oman it is legal for a middle aged man to marry a girl as young as 10.
Even recently a Saudi court turned down a petition to ban such things. Is it really legal under the constitution to allow child marriages.

Unfortunately, yes. Over there it is. There are extreme pressures, however, to disallow this.
This article is about an 11 year old boy who was set to marry his 10 year old cousin. Further in the article, it states that an 8 year old girl was forced to marry a man over four times her age, and pressures have been placed on the government about this.

This article is about Saudi Arabia banning forced marriages in April of 2005. Sadly, the one above is dated in 2008, and is regarding forced marriages.
I hope that answers your question.

Remember you live in Canada. What is legal in one country may not be legal here. Just recently there was a minister in BC that was arrested for preforming such weddings. I know a Pastor who will not allow his daughter even talk to some older than her,(unless it is family). Now how what will it take to become family? I knew of a gal from Edmonton who was said to be 14 and workings as a escort around the province. Question come to mind how did the city issuse a permit,(licence) to the gal?Knowing she is under age.
Unfortunatley it is true, and in my opinion, it is something that should be stopped. However, it is related to religion and tradition and these two things can be extremely hard to break.
That is so hard to believe that it would be legal, but it is in that country. It is a horrible thing happening to these little children.
