I've heard that abortion is legal in Canada? Is this true?

I live in Ontario, and last summer I saw an advertisement with a picture of a fully pregnant woman, with the Question 'Have we gone too far?' Apparently in Ontario it is or was legal to have an abortion right up until 9 months, or ie if the baby is not born yet then the abortion is was allowed.
