I live in Southern British Columbia. I recently got a ticket for a seat belt violation. Even though I was wearing my seat belt. We were driving with the T-tops off the car, and comin over a mountain range it got a little cold so I put my arms through the sleeves of a sweater. Having the sweater on the way i did, you couldnt see the seat belt while driving towards me, even though it was on. The cop flipped around and after realizing it was simply my sweater blocking the belt, he went after me for having it tucked under my arm. It was like that becuase I'm a very short guy, and the seat belt rubs under my chin, and directly across of throat if it isnt under my arm. He issued the fine, and refused to give any ligit explination. My question is, even though it is not recommended to wear your seat belt in this fashion, is it illegal? Is it a legal fine?
Also, my brother had his front licence plater displayed on his dash, and got a fine for that as well. (Yes this cop musta been having a bad day) Does your front plate have to be displayed on the front of the vehicle, or is it perfectly legal to have it on your dash? Thank you very much
Both very good questions that I have pondered myself. It is legal to cite you and fine you for improper use of the the seatbelt. Wearing it improperly is the same as not wearing it at all. If the front plate bracket had fallen off or was damaged then one can display it in the dash until the repair is made.
