Default Is it legal to tell a meter maid to F Off?

I apologize in advance for the ramble. I hate the Santa Monica ticket Nazis - those scumbags who drive around in the little golf carts, giving tickets to everyone. Seriously, I once got a ticket for parking too far from the curb - I even paid the meter! Last month, I got a $60 ticket for parking on the wrong side of the street. Why don't they just give me the death penalty?

Anyway, I'm curious to know if I could get in trouble if I pull alongside one of these traffic cops and tell them to F off. I'm so tempted to do this whenever I see them. Just wondering if they could give me a ticket for some bogus "disturbing the peace"-type law.

    Thanks for listening.

Santa Monica ? Most likely not a ticket, however you may be aressted for threating behavior.

Not illegal unless the meter maid feels threatened by it and in which case they'll say they did.

    Default Not smart

Meter maids are officials enforcing parking laws. Although you might feel better momentarily, it is not smart to verbally abuse enforcement personnel or any one for that matter. The person you offend is probably not the one who wrote you a citation and they might have friends who could make days of your life very unpleasant. I see vehicles illegally parked many times when I need a space. I choose not to park illegally next to them...with my luck I would be fined.

Read your California driving book again and try to follow the rules. You might get fewer tickets. If you feel a citation is not in order, take some pictures of the scene, statements from some witnesses, and fight the ticket in court.

It is probably legal. You do have freedom of speech. Just make sure that the person you're saying it to doesn't feel threatened and don't do it while they are giving you a ticket, or it could be obstructing an officer.

You mean everything is not at peace in the People's Republic of Santa Monica? Wow. Now I know how they raise their revenue. But seriously, your 1st Amendment freedom of speech covers you unless you do something to make the other person reasonably have a fear. Yelling at them could be their "reason" to feel fear, so if you are going to do it, do it with a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Remember, it is to make you feel better not to piss them off. The person you see may not be the person who wrote your ticket, though, and you could be FO'ing someone who isn't part of the regime that gives them out unnecessarily.

It's better to just keep the expletives to yourself. They are still considered as authorities, it wouldn't be worth the trouble.

Regardless of legality, it is rude.
