The biggest businesses trading in Australia will lose some tax benefits to fund the government’s $1 billion jobs plan, Prime Minister Julia Gillard has revealed.

Ms Gillard on Sunday unveiled the government’s pitch to blue-collar workers, A Plan for Australian Jobs, designed to ensure local suppliers get a fair crack at contracts for large-scale projects.

‘‘We have identified a saving which means bigger businesses currently benefiting from a special research and development tax advantage will be foregoing that tax advantage in order to fund the rest of this package,’’ the prime minister told reporters in Melbourne.
