I live in Marion, Arkansas. My grandmother is on her deathbed. My entire family works full time, and my grandfather who is 87 years old, can't take care of my grandmother. She is basically just breathing. After spending the past year, I myself can't take care of her anymore. She is currently in the hospital, and will be released friday into a nursing home provided by medicare. Since she is not able to walk on her own, and is beyond rehabilitation, she'll be either sent home after three days of no compliance with the nursing home, or my grandfather will have to start paying for it. First they take his assets, then dig into his monthly income, since he makes more than 2 grand. This will make my grandfather lose everything he's worked his life for. So to my point, and question. If he was to divorce her (sad to say, but the only logical thought) since her income doesn't amount to 2,000 dollars a month, she'd be accepted. But, could the medicare deny her since she was recently divorced, even if there was legal reasoning for the divorce? Please help. Any advice would help. thank you.
