I know several peole, myself included, who are exploring urban homesteading as a hedge against energy prices and the depression the USA has entered. Some people have managed getting photovoltaic systems on their homes while others have cleared space for planting their own vegetables.

At one time it wasn't illegal to keep your own chickens in the city because they didn't smell up the neighborhood, but I wonder if this is still true.
Is it legal to keep chickens if your home is in a downtown area?
