I wonder that whether it is legal to exchange movies between friends or family neighbors. Because since they are viewing it without paying would that be illegal.

It seems as though if you own the movie you can do what you like with it such as allow a family member or friend to also view the movie. However, where is the line drawn? For example, can you then share with "1,000s" of your 'internet friends' by posting the owned movie online??

I think exchanging is different from selling or renting the movie for a profit. When in doubt, pay for licensing and create a membership only site!
