View Full Version : Is it legal to capture live TV clips and then post them on YouTube?
I have always wondered if it is legal to capture live TV (what seems to be copyrighted) clips and post them on YouTube? Seems like this happens a lot. Any thoughts on this??

Technically speaking it is not legal. Further there is a conflict between the use of personal freedom and copyrights in such sites. As far as I know the uploader cannot be punished for uploading as he pays for his video. It is the site which hosts copyright contents have to be legalized.
Interesting comments.
How can the site police every video to determine if it is copyrighted or not? Is this something that is their responsibility? Likewise how can a forum moderate every post and every thread to determine if there is illegal discussion occurring, etc..

They don't have to. Most of the time, other users and viewers of the clip will be stupid enough to talk about it in a blog or forum along with posting links to the clip!
All the original producer of the clip has to do is take a page from music companies that started suing people for getting songs from Napster.
