I recently went to my gym and put my gun in my locker. Another member saw me put the gun in my locker and reported me to management. They went and got the building security and told me to get my weapon and leave the building. I asked if they had a no weapons sign posted which they did but not in the door that is used for gym members. It's at the front door of the main building. I went to look at the sign and it is a gun in a circle with a line drawn through it. In my training for a concealed handgun I was told that the state penal code number with the description must be posted. That a gun with a line drawn through it was not a legal notice to prevent people that are licensed from bringing their gun in. Does anyone know the law and if that is true how do I get the building management to comply with the correct sign. I am in Dallas, Texas

Smich,

In the state of Texas a business must have a sign that references 30.06 posted where it would reasonably be seen by someone entering the establishment before a CCW holder can be charged with carrying where prohibited. However, the owner of any property can legally ask you to leave the property if they are uncomfortable with your weapon and once you have been informed that they do not want you to carry on their property you can be charged if you carry there in the future with or without the sign. Just don't take your gun there again. don't make a big deal of it they have a right to say they don't want you to carry, and you have the right to spend your money at another gym.......
